A request for my nerdy friends

I know plenty of my blog readers are self-described nerds like myself. As such, if you have access to a university library system and can obtain any of the following journal articles, I would deeply appreciate it.  It's for an article I'm working on for Scientific American Mind, and I need to submit the full-text journal articles with my draft.

So here's the list:

Reduced perception of bodily signals in anorexia nervosa

Brains of anorexia nervosa patients process self-images differently from non-self-images: an fMRI study

Self-Objectification, Disordered Eating, and Depression

Thank you ever so much! Please email any pdfs to carrie@edbites.com

Edited to add: Thanks everyone! I have all my files (not to mention the best readers on the face of the planet).

Aw I'm so nerdy I was actually disappointed that I didn't get to this sooner so I could be the file provider. Those look interesting, though, think I will look them up for myself when I get time.

Good luck with the article you're working on!

The article (I'm not sure how much to share...it's not a secret, but I'm not sure how much magazines like writers disclosing all the juicy secrets beforehand) is about the links between problems with interoception and sensing the internal state of your body with body dysmorphia. The idea is that we all create a body image out of a combination of internal (how am I feeling? what is my body experiencing?) and external (how do I look?) cues. People with interoceptive problems don't have those internal cues--or at least, they don't have as many of them. So instead, they rely more on external cues to develop their body image, making them more susceptible to body dysmorphia.

My nearly 2000 words distilled down. Ta-da!

Good luck with your article. Access to academic article databases is the only thing I miss about school.

About Me

My photo
I'm a science writer, a jewelry design artist, a bookworm, a complete geek, and mom to a wonderful kitty. I am also recovering from a decade-plus battle with anorexia nervosa. I believe that complete recovery is possible, and that the first step along that path is full nutrition.

Drop me a line!
