The more you know

Most of you know by know that I'm a research junkie. PubMed is a recreational sport in my book. So when I found that the Academy for Eating Disorders had recently made public "critical research" published in the International Journal of Eating Disorders, I practically started frothing at the mouth.

I wasn't disappointed.

They had released a special 2005 supplement from IJED called "Evidence-based information on eating disorders as their treatment." Which is about the best kind of critical research you can find.

I'm excited that treatment providers and other interested parties can now download and read these articles for free even if they don't have university or institutional access. Browse and download and save and learn at your leisure.

Oh, and AED is having next year's conference in Cancun. So they have to be cool.

thank you, thank you thank you from this fellow research junkie. Mind you the first abstract is "naught for your comfort" Christopher Fairbairn (practically a neighbour of mine!) states "Is evidence-based treatment of anorexia nervosa possible? Barely is the conclusion drawn. New forms of treatment are needed for adults with anorexia nervosa, and the true value of family-based treatment for adolescents has yet to be established." - oh well. Off to read the whole article to see if it sheds just a little more light.

Actually, having looked at it, I've realised that I've already read it. No, no easy answers in it I'm afraid.

I'm glad you're getting the word out about some of the great free, full text information for the public. We really have access to so much more than we used to.

About Me

My photo
I'm a science writer, a jewelry design artist, a bookworm, a complete geek, and mom to a wonderful kitty. I am also recovering from a decade-plus battle with anorexia nervosa. I believe that complete recovery is possible, and that the first step along that path is full nutrition.
