Little Victories

This time, I'll be sailing
No more bailing boats for me
I'll be out there on the sea
Just my confidence and me

And I'll be awful sometimes
Weakened to my knees
But I'll learn to get by
On little victories

I ate dinner tonight. Every fiber in my being was screaming at me not to eat, to crack open a can of Diet Coke and enjoy. Well, okay, I had a diet soda, but I also had dinner.

Thank the Lord for leftovers.

This time, I'll have no fear
I'll be standing strong and tall
Turn my back towards them all

I always get depressed at the end of a break. It's like I can forget about all of the real world stuff that exists out there, just for a bit. But then it always comes flying back in my face. The never-ending pile of grading. The list of people I need to call for interviews. The inbox full of unanswered emails. The finding of a job.

Little things like that.

It's so freaking overwhelming.

Less food = less anxiety.

Even I can do the math.

And I'll be awful sometimes
Weakened to my knees
I'll learn to get by
And I'll learn to get by
On the little victories
And if the world decides to catch up with me
Still little victories

So I kissed my sweet kitty, all curled up on my chest, took a deep breath, and opened the fridge. Put the plate in the microwave and picked up the fork.

Little victories.

This post really hits home with me. Little victories were the key to my recovery. And even now that I am better, I still need the daily, little victories to maintain my now healthy life. But like the other people who have posted said, the little victories are not little at all. You are so inspirational...in fact, you inspired me to blog as well! :)

Jeanne,

This coming from a pole diva? Niiiiiiice. :)

James!

I never knew you were blogging. This is wonderful. I'll have to link to you. It's an odd little Michigan circle here.

I linked your blog to mine if that's okay. I do hope you mean "odd circle" in a good way ;)

About Me

My photo
I'm a science writer, a jewelry design artist, a bookworm, a complete geek, and mom to a wonderful kitty. I am also recovering from a decade-plus battle with anorexia nervosa. I believe that complete recovery is possible, and that the first step along that path is full nutrition.
