I loved the article comparing the controversies on salt and prozac. I have low blood pressure and eat salt like it's going out of fashion (not that I have any evidence that this helps, but my doctor told me it was worth a try and I like salty things!), and I also have consistently dreadful reactions to antidepressants - they make me suicidal and/or manic. I've never been anti-medication though, I've seen how much it helps some people and I think it's ridiculous to generalise and say that meds are always bad/good. I know my reaction to medication wasn't just the depression getting worse because it happened like clockwork every time I tried SSRIs/SNRIs, and I'd never been hypomanic before I was put on venlafaxine. The effect wears off a few weeks after I come back off them. So I don't take any medication now, and I cope reasonably well by using CBT/DBT techniques - but I do worry what would happen if my depression got out of hand again. It would be wonderful if someone could work out exactly how antidepressants work/don't work for some people, so they could predict who would be helped and who would be harmed. Maybe then they could solve the problem of treatment resistant people like myself...
