Sunday Smörgåsbord

It's your weekly Sunday Smorgasbord, where I trawl the web for ED-related links, news, research, and more, so you don't have to.

Eating disorders in youth: Diagnostic variability and predictive validity.

Embracing the complexity of eating disorders.

Weight Bullying in Childhood Could Trigger Eating Disorders Later in Life. The issue is a lot more complex than the press release says, but I think it's important to remember that bullying in general and about weight in particular is a common ED trigger.

Why making dinner is a good idea. Whether it's a solution to obesity, I'm not sure, but I do know its tremendously satisfying to cook and prepare your own food.

The socio-emotional processing stream in Anorexia Nervosa.

Vulnerability & The Mask of Thinness.

An investigation of the joint longitudinal trajectories of low body weight, binge eating, and purging in women with anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa.

News flash: Healthy living is more than nutrition and exercise.

Clinical correlates of eating disorder comorbidity in women with bipolar disorder type I.

Sleep has many benefits for your life and health. It's tangentially ED-related because many people with EDs tend to burn the candle at both ends, and learning to take a break is something I'm working on in recovery.

New book says: Give food a chance.

An investigation into the relationship between eating disorder psychopathology and autistic symptomatology in a non-clinical sample.

High-speed video shows how the cat gets the cream.

The link between adults with autistic characteristics and adults with anorexia is insanely interesting. Want to know how that comparison fits you? Take the AQ Test and find out:

Carrie, thanks so much for linking to my post! It's always an honor to have you link to something of mine.

I totally agree with Dr. Bulik's quote about the complexity of eating disorders. Like anything else, I think it's tempting to want a simple explanation or an all-or-nothing one, such as EDs are caused by genetics. Or they're caused by the media. And so on. But that's just not the case. It's an important reminder.

Also, "Give Food a Chance" sounds like a fantastic book! I think something our culture is contributing to is a fear of food, and that's alarming.

Thanks again!!

I know that Carrie already took the AQ test because she got more or less the same score as me when it turned up on facebook :P ah facebook, where would we be without you. I find the link between anorexia and autistic traits really interesting too. I also found the article about bullying interesting. I was bullied but no mention was ever made of my weight, and I'm absolutely certain that eating disorders are more complex than some kid calling another kid fat. Correlation =/= cause, press release people!

Lol, I almost wrote press relapse people. Freudian slip.
