Stress and exhaustion

My life has been more than a little chaotic and stressful lately. This explains a lot of why I haven't been blogging quite as much over the past week- by the time I actually sit down at my computer to blog, I'm often too tired to put a sentence together.  I'm taking some pretty big steps in my life, and it's draining me.

So what am I doing?

Yesterday afternoon, I put an offer on a condo.  It's about 15 minutes from my parent's house.  I had a really cool townhouse all picked out, but I crunched the numbers and realized that finances would be way the hell too tight for comfort.  So I reluctantly abandoned that townhouse and found something quite a bit cheaper.  Here are some pictures of the inside (I'm not showing the outside for privacy reasons- if you want to see, send me an email and I'll send you a photo):

There's a nice little nook for my office, and there's two bedrooms and two baths.  The other photos are pretty nondescript because it's just tan carpeting and white walls. The unit had never been lived in, which is good from an OCD standpoint!
But this whole process has been time consuming and stressful, leaving me completely knackered.  I think I'm ready for such a step, but it's still extremely nerve-wracking.

I will keep you posted.

This is exciting!

I like the windows; it looks like it will be filled with light. I have lots of windows in my study, it's as close as I can get to working outdoors.

It is beautiful! How wonderful for you.

Love it! I'd love to see a picture of you! Why do I feel so creepy asking you that?? lol! I read your blog everyday as I struggle with my own recovery. I'd love to put a face with your name though! I'm glad the househunting wasn't OVERLY stressful for ya. We are thinking about moving to CO from TX, just THINKING about it stresses me out! How the heck do I send you an email? I've looked all over your website, but I couldn't find another way to contact you. Take care!

It looks nice and clean :) I agree, that's soooo important from an OCD standpoint!

OK, so I will now advise from an 'old fart' point of view, having purchased 3 houses/apartments myself in the past...

(BTW, I didn't know what a 'condo' was until I looked it up in Wiki; we call them 'flats' in the UK).

The main word of warning is NEIGHBOURS. If you have people living in the same building above, below and to the side it can be very noisy. I don't know about you, but I am someone who likes peace and quiet, and even the faint sound of someone else's TV at night can drive me crazy.

The first flat I ever bought was in a beautiful old, Victorian house that had been refurbished. I was the first to move into the building, but then a young woman moved in upstairs who would bring friends home after midnight and they'd be shouting and banging all night. I sold the flat within the year, only to make a loss of £10,000.

On the basis that you will get the peace and quiet you may need for you and Aria, the go for it! It will look lovely once you get some furniture in :)

Cathy,

The unit is on the top floor, so I don't have to worry about banging from above. And the complex is split between young professionals and retired people. It also helps that it's a corner unit, so I don't have quite the surrounding noise.

I didn't realize that in the UK a flat refers both to a condo and an apartment. In the US, a condo is something that you own (you buy it outright), whereas an apartment is something you rent. There's also a townhouse, where you actually own the building as opposed to a condo where you just own the insides. So. Stinking. Confusing!

But all the windows and the light, bright feeling were what sold me on the unit!

It is great, love the neutral decor and I am with you about loving that it is new, never lived, in, etc. I wish you lots of luck and success in the new abode. Any idea on timeframe of move? Also, FYI I see what the outside looks like from the view from the windows, lol, and I like!

This looks like a great unit. I agree that the natural lighting is amazing. It seems like a great place to be a science writer :) So happy for you!
