New ED Bites format!

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, I decided to update the blog format for any number of reasons, not the least of which were:

make the information more accessible (there's a LOT of it!)
make the website look prettier (sigh...vanity)
make ED Bites easier to navigate

I realize that the sidebar stuff is rather messed up as yet, and it will probably take me a day or two to reorganize everything.

I also intend to group my posts in several different "categories." The most obvious to me are an "About Me" section (which is where I'll post the wordle for all eternity, so you can light candles, etc, and tell it how much you loved it), a "Personal" section, a "Research/Nerd" section, and a "News/Smorgasbord" section.

I realize that asking you for any other suggestions you might have may be a little premature since the links on the side are still so wonky, but if you do have any thoughts or suggestions, please do share them!

Cool! I love the look and love that you're doing categories for all your posts :) As you know, I'm a huge fan ;)

Wow- that was quick!

Thanks for the feedback. Getting everything into categories will be a monster of a project, but it beats just stewing and worrying...

I like the colors and format. Small papers with notes...I like it (is like a used book).
I suggest to post *About you* photo and short text upper right above *Pages*. Why? Because for the newcomers, first arrival is important to stress that this is science and 'about my case' mix. To me is that which made your blog unique.
Your published work (book, etc.) could have more visibility. The cover of your book for example is in many other blogs.
Now is easier to search for a topic (box search and also index).
About science: you made available 'hard science' in simple and clear way. You discuss scientific results. You call the attention for new frontiers of science etc. So, I would like that science would be more present on the index (e.g. what we already know; what we still do not know; anorexia nervosa: science hot topics; what science is discussing and scientists desagree, etc.).
Sorry, if my suggestions are not clear. I have some troubles with English.
Summing up: your blog is great !!! (it is perfect! yes, please, let me say you that Carrie)

Kim is like lighting quick with feedback, always! She is an all star!!

I like the look so much, Carrie! I do agree that the about me should be moved up because I want to know who you are when I first come here. Now that I'm typing this, I realize that maybe I should make it more evident on my own blog...hmm...

Anyway, I agree with ex-ana too that "digestible" science combined with personal application is your niche. That's not to say you couldn't branch out and change it as you continue to mix up your blog, but right now that is what I think of when I think of "edbites." I liked how you had the wordmap around "digest" in your last blog design, so maybe you could move that to an "about me" page if you created one.

Anyway, I really like it! Nice work. I have a slight blog design update in the works as well, if I can convince my brother to actually finish the cool new header he promised to make me...

It's taking me a bit of time to get used to the new format and I miss the wordle, but I expect I'll get over it soon - will just have to do some work on my readiness to change!

I really like it! It's your blog, you do whatever you want to it - you're a great writer, I'm pretty sure I would continue to read regardless of any changes. I agree with Sarah and ex ana too, your take on the scientific side of eating disorders is incredibly helpful and I don't think you will ever be short of fellow nerds to thank you for that ;)

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions!

It took me over a year and a half of blogging to even put an "about me" section on ED Bites as I didn't want to feel like bragging. I also wasn't blogging under my full name an so didn't want people "guessing" who I was. But since I'm using my real name there's no sense in pretending that people can't find me!

I will likely do the moving around of stuff tonight- that's fairly straightforward. I will work on the other "sections" about science and personal stuff probably tomorrow since that will be much more intensive.

Marcella,

I know- I miss the wordle too. I worked for *hours* to try and find a design that would let me keep it, and that had all of the features I wanted the blog update to have, and I just couldn't swing it. So I'm going to create a wordle memorial as the idea of art using words just tickles me so much.

Whoa. I don't usually like visual change at first, but this looks great. I can't think of a single thing to change.

Also -- Gaelic Storm!!

Jay,

What about Gaelic Storm? I've seen them live in concert several times and am always on the lookout for more appearances. I did snag some autographs once...

Great new look! Love that you're doing categories. Love the colors & background design, and the notebook look, too.

I am thrilled and relieved that everyone likes the new format! I have the different pages created, though they're still blank. I will fill them in probably over the weekend, as I have to go back through my posts and weed out the pertinent ones...

Like the new format. I actually saw this blog template and was considering it as well. It's pretty amazing what you can do with blogs, but it all takes a lot of time and effort.

I'm a science writer, a jewelry design artist, a bookworm, a complete geek, and mom to a wonderful kitty. I am also recovering from a decade-plus battle with anorexia nervosa. I believe that complete recovery is possible, and that the first step along that path is full nutrition.
