Thanks Carrie :)

I really enjoyed the article "The Starving Brain". For once, a women's magazine had a sensible, balanced - and moreover evidence-based article about EDs.

Interesting article about Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). I show virtually none of the characteristics of BPD and have never been diagnosed with the condition, but I know many people who have been diagnosed with it while they are in recovery from anorexia nervosa (AN). This is because they self-harm, have urges to binge eat, don't know who they are (etc.). But I would suggest this is fairly typical behaviour for someone in recovery from AN - and wears off as weight is maintained and eating stabilises.

Thanks for the link to the Royal Society Christmas lectures. I watched all of these and they were brilliant. I was wanting to watch some of them again :)

I actually wrote about the shaming and guilt being used in those obesity ads. If you actually look at it, as the money being spent on those types of campaigns has been increasing (did you know it's been proposed to increase the budget by $10 BILLION??) obesity has been on the rise. While the two are obviously proportionate - the correlation is harder to verify... What's more interesting is that as people that we see publicly have been getting smaller and smaller (determined by looking at the top ten actress of the last 6 decades, using their weights listed on their comp cards -- also verified by a research study) -- the weight of the population norm has been rising (as has the number of people diagnosed with eating disorders)... By having the people on TV and in films -- who we are supposed to be able to relate to increasingly getting smaller, we're in a way subtly being shamed as well... I think these are links that undoubtedly need to be further examined. Especially since one of the results of shaming could very be an emotional reaction that could lead to binge eating and overconsumption
