That was fun. We all need more "play" time in life.hmnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561748834204284315.post-9858003077882532322011-01-31T04:28:53.770-05:002011-01-31T04:28:53.770-05:00For some reason I cannot download full papers from...For some reason I cannot download full papers from my home computer at the moment, which is intensely annoying, so I will have to wait to read the full paper "Eating in Eating Disorders" - which looks really interesting.

The leptin paper also looks interesting, although the data are hardly unexpected given that serum leptin level depends upon the magnitude of body fat stores and energy balance. If leptin were used to diagnose AN it would also diagnose AN in some very lean athletes who don't possess the psychological characteristics of AN, and it would neglect anorexic behaviours in individuals at higher weights.

Some of the newspaper articles are so badly analysed bu the authors. Take the paper 'EDs often exist in combination with other harmful pursuits and unhealthy mentality in patients'. Nothing new in the title. But the journalist describes a case of the development of AN then erroneously categorises it as a "guiding quest for perfection". Grrr. AN is too often inaccurately described as a 'quest for perfection'. IMO the Eating and Money Disorders article is equally bad.

I must admit that I prefer original, peer-reviewed papers than a journalist's spin on a paper or condition, unless, like you Carrie, the journalist knows what they're talking about.Cathy (UK)noreply@blogger.com
