It's simply physics -- if you add heat, you will get hotter.

Your dad fell victim to a common wives' tale: add heat to cool things and cold to warm things.

Stay out of the heat when you're hot, or you'll likely find yourself in the emergency department.Rodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08809943400810580325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561748834204284315.post-20050657408807368502008-06-13T20:38:00.000-04:002008-06-13T20:38:00.000-04:00Marcella,No I agree with you about the "g". Considering that, Laura's expertise, and my bad natural talent at spelling (I'm good because I practice- it's not a natural skill), I will bow to Laura's pronunciation. And blame her if I sound stupid. :)

Harriet,

I definitely understand your frustration- and hers. I try to look at it as trying to reason with someone who's high on heroin. They are incapable of logic. I feel exactly the same way. (About the heat, too!) It makes me feel physically ill to not say something to someone obviously suffering from an eating disorder. I literally walked out of a store recently because the saleswoman was clearly anorexic. I was shaking with feelings and things I wanted to say. But there is no socially acceptable way to say any of it.Harriethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09774535311853591028noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561748834204284315.post-25636553936370845212008-06-12T17:44:00.000-04:002008-06-12T17:44:00.000-04:00It's the gnostic bit that confuses me with the pro...It's the gnostic bit that confuses me with the pronunciation - but I'll go with Laura's advice. It would probably have been wasted on the first psychiatrist I wish I'd tried it on, as he couldn't even pronounce the therapist's (perfectly ordinary) name, but I'm going to use it on one or two others when I see them.Fiona Marcellahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07985022521354870620noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561748834204284315.post-37273046076615330342008-06-12T17:05:00.000-04:002008-06-12T17:05:00.000-04:00Is the geek in me coming out now that I realize th...Is the geek in me coming out now that I realize that "gnosis" is in that word?
